ACC Basketball: Top 20 impact transfers for 2021-22 season
3. David Collins | 6’4 Guard | Clemson Tigers
Graduate transfer David Collins finds himself in quite the place with the Clemson Tigers after spending four seasons with the South Florida Bulls in the American Athletic Conference.
Collins has an opportunity to add some grit and grind to the Tigers rotation this upcoming season. He was named an All-AAC Freshman selection in 2018-19 after putting up 10.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.0 steals per contest and shooting 41.7 percent from 3-point land. While he’s not exactly the volume shooter, it’s his ability to do multiple things that stand out.
By the 15th game of his freshman year, he was in the starting rotation, making 12 starts across 27 games. In 2018-19, he was named to the All-AAC third-team after averaging 15.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.1 steals per contest.
He leaves the AAC ranked fourth in total steals (186) for his career. Through four seasons, Collins went 109-for-338 (32.2 percent) from behind the arc and 46 percent (360-for-783) from inside the arc.
His production certainly shows his ability to be effective inside and outside the paint in the backcourt. His arrival should fill a void in the backcourt left with the departure of Clyde Trapp.
They already have the frontcourt in place with PJ Hall and Hunter Tyson leading the charge for returners, if Al-Amir Dawes can co-exist with Collins, look for Clemson to turn some heads in 2021-22.
