2. Dawson Garcia | 6’11 Forward | North Carolina Tar Heels

Dawson Garcia is a top name to know out of the transfer portal with the North Carolina Tar Heels. After the exit of Steve Wojciechowski at Marquette this past March, Dawson hit the portal and on the other side, he’s landed in Chapel Hill.

Despite the results, Garcia joins the Tar Heels ranks after a productive freshman campaign with the Marquette Golden Eagles in 2020-21. He was a leader for them in scoring and rebounding with 13.0 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

At 6-foot-11, he’s quite the stretch forward/hybrid wing that does well operating inside and out. He shot 35.6 percent from the field while knocking down 26 of 73 shots from behind the arc as a freshman. Look for that number to grow as he joins the North Carolina rotation.

Garcia is just scratching the surface of his potential as evidenced by an All-Rookie team nod by the Big East Conference after the 2020-21 season. He put together three double-doubles and started in all 27 games for Marquette last year.

In his best game, he showed off his ability to operate around the rim and draw fouls, finishing with 28 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 9-of-10 shooting from the free-throw line. He’s set to break out taking on a new role with the Tar Heels and comes as one of the leading names off the transfer market heading into the 2021-22 season.
