ACC Basketball: Top 20 impact transfers for 2021-22 season
16. Matt Cross | 6’7 Forward/Wing | Louisville Cardinals
Matt Cross is a familiar name, at least to Miami Hurricanes fans, but now he’ll look to make a name for himself with the Louisville Cardinals with a fresh start.
Cross had an interesting go of things at Miami this past season as a freshman. He started in the first four games of the season before coming off the bench for three games then started in another five games before being dismissed from the team at the end of January.
Across 14 games (9 starts), he averaged 6.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game while knocking down 40 percent of his shots from deep. He finished scoring in double-figures in four of his 12 appearances and knocked down a career-best 16 points twice, including back in January against Louisville.
He’s something of a streaky shooter on the perimeter. While he made at least one 3-pointers in eight appearances, he went without making a 3-pointer in six appearances as well. He still averaged 1.4 makes per contest as a freshman, so the potential is there for him.
It will be interesting to see if he can find his way into the Cardinals rotation, but he’s certainly got something to add with his shooting ability, rebounding, and versatility. He’ll certainly add depth to their rotation, he’ll just need to look to make a splash on the rebounding front as well.
