ACC Basketball: Top 20 impact transfers for 2021-22 season
15. Cole Swider | 6’9 Guard/Wing | Syracuse Orange
Cole Swider is a player looking to spread his wings a whole lot more with the Syracuse Orange. He hit the transfer portal this past March, departing the Villanova Wildcats after three seasons.
Swider became quite the reserve in the Villanova rotation from 2018-21, especially shooting the 3-ball. He averaged 5.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 35.7 percent from 3-point land across 77 appearances (17 starts).
He knocked down a career-high 38 3-pointers as a sophomore back in 2019-20 while shooting 35.2 percent from behind the arc. This past season, he knocked down a career-high 1.4 3-pointers per contest while shooting a career-high 40.2 percent from range.
He’s shown flashes of his what he can do as a volume perimeter shooting threat. His career-high 26 points came off the bench back on November 21, 2019, when he also made a career-high six 3-pointers in a victory over Middle Tennessee.
After serving a mostly reserve role with the Wildcats, Swider looks to add some shooting and size on the interior for the Syracuse Orange. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the style of play defensively, but offensively, he’s a solid fit on a squad that finished tied for fourth in the ACC in 3-pointers made per game (8.5) in 2020-21.
He’ll look to add some size and depth on the perimeter given his length and shooting prowess. Look for him to make his presence felt off the bench.
