Big South Basketball: In-depth look at Campbell guard Cedric Henderson Jr.
By Bryan Mauro
Expectations for Cedric Henderson Jr.
Campbell has been one of the better teams in the Big South for the last handful of years. After a run to the conference title game a season ago, the Camels are looking to prove that it wasn’t just a fluke run for them to finish second in the conference. Campbell is one of the conference favorites this year, along with Winthrop. The Camels have an excellent chance to return to the conference title game and play for a chance to make the NCAA tournament.
The senior guard was a second-team all-conference performer a year ago. This year he is one of the favorites for the conference player of the year and is poised for a huge breakout season. He averaged 15 points per game last year and is one of the most efficient players in college basketball, so his breakout will be in the sense of gaining some national recognition for his play and get some national coverage.
That is possible, especially if he plays with his usual efficiency. Henderson has the talent to play in the NBA and with his bloodlines is likely going to get a look, but he is going to have improved his game from deep if he wants a legitimate shot.
As for the rest of the Camels, they have one of the more experienced teams in the entire Big South. Henderson is going to have tons of help this year to help Campbell reach their lofty goals. Super Senior Jordan Whitfield is a great shooter from deep and a huge part of what Campbell does on offense.
The other player who is going to be one to watch is Ricky Clemons, he is the brother to Campbell legend Chris Clemons. Ricky was a walk-on who is also really efficient from the floor and one of the nation’s best in drawing fouls.
The Camels are going to be a force in the league this year.
