8. Cal Golden Bears

The Bears are in desperate need of a program-changing point guard. The presence of scoring-ace Matt Bradley on their roster over the last several seasons has done little to elevate the rest of the program. Injuries and issues with roster continuity have prevented overall progress for Cal to build themselves off the bottom of the conference rung.

These collective issues have sustained the Bears’ presence in the lower end of both offensive and defensive production nationally. It’s unlikely the addition of Uzan by himself would correct these problems single-handedly regardless of the former connections from his grassroots coach and current head coach Mark Fox.

Undoubtedly the guard’s skillset as a reliable scoring threat and all-around playmaker would benefit the program well, but more pieces need to accompany him to make significant progress in improving the team. The probability Uzan leaves his hometown for a destination like this is low.

7. Creighton Bluejays

Head coach Greg McDermott worked diligently this offseason to piece together a recruiting class capable of patching the numerous top-end losses. The Bluejays lost their entire starting lineup at the season’s end and were widely considered to be one of the top groups in the country let alone the Big East Conference. Signing a top-20 recruiting class in their place should place Creighton in a nice spot in due time, especially with the arrival of point guard Ryan Nembhard.

Uzan has described himself as a pure point guard, despite his ability to impact the game in a complete manner. The presence of Nembhard on the 2021 roster poses an immediate logjam towards playing time that could result in Uzan electing to go elsewhere.

A proven member of the Canadian National Team and National Champion Montverde Academy, Nembhard will be difficult to unseat and will have equally talented players surrounding him in the backcourt taking away valuable minutes. While Uzan’s talents certainly fit McDermott’s system, the opportunity piece of the puzzle does not fit as well as hoped for.
