Big East Basketball: 10 key questions looming for 2021-22 season
5. Which Creighton newcomer will make an instant impact?
The Creighton Bluejays return with six newcomers in 2021-22 after a strong season led by Marcus Zegarowski and his ability to make things happen. With six newcomers in the rotation, they’ll surely be yet another challenge in Big East basketball action.
The Bluejays made it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament before falling to the Gonzaga Bulldogs, 83-65. It was the first time they made it to the Sweet 16 since 1974 when they were an Independent member of the NCAA. Now, they return this year looking to make another splash, but replacing Zegarowski is key.
A lot of the offense may come from the paint next season. KeyShawn Feazell (McNeese State) leads this year’s crop of additions. He averaged 13.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest while posting eight double-doubles. With a barren frontcourt, the 6-foot-9 big man will look to continue to develop in the frontcourt.
Arthur Kaluma is another big man that should make his presence felt in the paint. He’s a versatile 6-foot-8 forward that starred at Dream CIty Christian (TX) in 2020-21.
6-foot freshman Ryan Nembhard looks to run the show at the point guard spot after finishing up at Montverde Academy. He put up 12 points and seven assists as Montverde captured last year’s Geico National Championship. Look for him to make an impact in 2021-22.
