6. Purdue Boilermakers

Home & Away – Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Northwestern, Rutgers, Wisconsin
Home Only – Maryland, Nebraska, Ohio State
Away Only – Michigan State, Minnesota, Penn State

The home and away match-ups Purdue has with Michigan and Illinois are going to be great. As mentioned already, the match-ups with the men in the middle will be a pleasure to watch all season. When it comes to their games versus the Fighting Illini, Cockburn has the ability to disrupt Williams on the offensive end, more so than Williams can do in return, a situation that was demonstrated in Illinois’ 66-58 win at home last season.

The difference lays with Purdue returning all their starters and having four guys that can contribute off the bench, while Illinois has lost Dosunmu and Andre Miller who scored 12 and 10 respectively in last season’s win. Alonso Plummer is a great addition, but he is the sole backup for both guard spots. Look for the Boilermakers to take three of four as Isiah Livers led Michigan to a 70-53 win by scoring twenty-two last season.

Having six games in total against Iowa, Wisconsin and Northwestern will not only allow Purdue to rack up six victories, but it enabled Purdue to be scheduled at Minnesota and Penn State, two easy road wins. Traveling to East Lansing to face Michigan State could be challenging even though Williams was unstoppable scoring 28 and 26 in ten and one-point victories, the Spartans only lost by one at home last season, and the Spartans are better this year.

The Boilermakers do have to play Ohio State and Maryland, but they are at home and those two games may decide if Purdue finishes second or third in the Big Ten. With the aforementioned five starters returning Purdue is going to win a lot of games, but this schedule has made it that much easier.
