Big Ten Basketball: Ranking each team’s league schedule for 2021-22 season
1. Indiana Hoosiers
Home & Away – Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin
Home Only – Illinois, Michigan, Rutgers
Away Only – Iowa, Michigan State, Northwestern
As if getting Pittsburgh transfer Xavier Johnson as their new starting point guard and getting Northwestern forward Miller Kopp who will be their 2021-22 starting small forward was not lucky enough, the forces that be who make the Big Ten schedule, made them all the more fortunate.
In his first season patrolling the sidelines for the Hoosiers head coach Mike Woodson has the fortune to prep for Minnesota, Penn State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. Nebraska is the only team among them with depth, Northwestern has the guard play, but none of them seem to have all the prerequisites to beat Indiana. Ohio State and Purdue are top-tier teams, but the rivalry between the Hoosiers and Boilermakers makes everything slightly more even.
Their away schedule is also very favorable, two of those games are versus inferior opponents in Iowa and Northwestern. the match-up against Michigan State will rest with the guards. In addition, if you are not going to play Iowa and Northwestern twice, playing them on the road is the next best option. Road wins are not easy to come by, but Iowa and Northwestern are great candidates.
Speaking of losing at home, that is something that will happen when Illinois and Michigan go to Assembly Hall, but if the emerging Hoosiers have the advantage in the frontcourt aside from having to deal with Cockburn and Dickinson. Indiana will benefit from the schedule more than any other Big Ten team and on paper – the piece the schedule is written on at the very least – indicates they will tally up more victories than expected.
