NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 10 options for five-star big Yohan Traore
Texas Tech Red Raiders
It was a good effort by new head coach Mark Adams to beef up the frontcourt for next season, with transfers Bryson Williams and Kevin Obanor, along with returning center Marcus Santos-Silva. All three of them could very well be gone, which would allow Traore to not only get plenty of playing time as a freshman but also be a focal point of the offense inside. He’d be the perfect start for the program’s 2022 class and help them rebuild back into contender’s status after losing head coach Chris Beard.
UCLA Bruins
The Bruins are hoping that Traore will want to stay out west so they can get their replacement for seniors, Myles Johnson and Cody Riley. This is a spot where he’d get plenty of minutes early on for a really good team that has plenty of quality guards to surround him with. That includes five-star guard Amari Bailey, and adding Traore would give UCLA the ideal 2022 class without having to worry about the transfer portal next offseason.
Utah Utes
Not many head coaches on this list have recent experience in developing a big man good enough to go to the NBA Draft. Utah’s new head coach Craig Smith does with former Mountain West star center Neemias Queta. That’ll be the selling point for the rebuilding Utes in their efforts to land Traore, as they can pair him with Braden Carlson to make a good frontcourt in the Pac-12.
Each of these NCAA Basketball teams could use Yohan Traore but between potential playing time, development, and the likelihood of making the NCAA Tournament, the teams that stand out the most include UCLA, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State. Will one of these three ends up the winner of this sweepstakes?
