NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Analyzing 5-star center Adem Bona top 7 teams
UCLA Bruins
With the Bruins key centers (Myles Johnson and Cody Riley) both entering their final years of NCAA Basketball, it makes sense why the program has been aggressively targeting class of 2022 centers. Bona would naturally fit head coach Mick Cronin’s system that prioritizes interior defense.
But like with other teams, UCLA has been after several top-30 big men. That includes Ernest Udeh Jr., Yohan Traore, and Vince Iwuchukwu. While there is also a need for a power forward to join, which would create a spot where these guys could play with one another, I’m not sure if they can get Bona without parting ways with the other frontcourt targets.
USC Trojans
After Evan Mobley went No. 3 overall in the NBA Draft, the Trojans are hoping that his older brother Isaiah Mobley can fill in at the center position this upcoming draft. Assuming he’s gone after next year, that opens it up for Bona to come in and get plenty of minutes as a freshman.
And unlike Miami, USC would have surrounding talent, as they landed five-star power forward prospect Kijani Wright in the 2022 class. He and Bona could be a dynamic duo and this option has fewer downsides than any of the others, even Kentucky in the chance that Tshiebwe doesn’t leave after next season. The Trojans have a history of landing five-star talent and if the recruit wants to stay close by, don’t count them out in this recruitment.
