Overall Outlook

So how will the Huskies fare this season? The Big East will be strong this season, I expect the league to get anywhere from 4-6 NCAA tournament berths. I can see UConn finishing as high as  2nd and hopefully no lower than 4th, earning an NCAA tournament berth and hopefully with a win or two. The Huskies seem motivated as ever after getting a taste of post-season action last season. It didn’t end the way they had hoped, and Hurley hasn’t let them forget it.

As for the starting lineup, I am still torn on my predictions, but I don’t want to get too hung up on that. One of the most important factors this season will be minutes distribution rather than who happens to start. The motto each night should be to feed the hot hand. With this level of depth, Hurley can play around with mismatches and take advantage of their versatility. The Huskies can also play a more aggressive style of defense, which should lead to more easy scoring opportunities in transition.

When Dan Hurley was hired, he walked everyone through his plan to reignite UConn and so far, he has delivered. He has reinvigorated the fan base and locked down top talent from the Northeast.

The next step in the plan is maintaining this consistency and competing for conference and national championships. Hurley has never made it past the second weekend of the NCAA tournament, but he’s got his best chance yet as he continues to rebuild UConn back to its former glory.
