Purdue Basketball: Projected starting lineup and depth chart for 2021-22 season
Shooting guard
When it comes to a shooting guard, that will be Ivey’s spot in the lineup, but behind him, there are a few options that can slide into that spot, as well as play other positions. While they are listed as guards, expect 6-5 sophomore Brandon Newman and 6-5 senior Sasha Stefanovic to be two guys who could likely see reserve minutes at the off-guard position.
The 6-5 Newman averaged eight points and 3.5 rebounds last season and was the team’s second-best three-point shooter at 37.9%, trailing only Stefanovic in that category. Junior Isaiah Thompson was integral for Purdue last season despite only averaging 4.4 points per game. The 6-1 sophomore averaged nearly 18 minutes per game, giving Painter another guy he could trust while other guys got a breather.
While he didn’t necessarily have the ball in his hands a ton, Thompson committed a total of 14 turnovers all year. I expect him to play a similar role this season, spelling guys when needed while giving Purdue dependable guard play.
