Small Forward

Justyn Mutts has fit in well at the small forward spot and if he can stay out of foul trouble in 2021-22, he has a chance to be very good. He averaged a team-high 2.8 fouls per contest in 2020-21 while starting in 21 of 22 games in his first season with Virginia Tech basketball.

Mutts gives the Hokies quite the inside-out threat at the small forward spot. He has the ability to operate in multiple positions given his length and size at 6-foot-7 and 230 pounds that can also act as rebounder and playmaker. He’s got an X-Factor-type role this year in the rotation after shooting 33.3 percent from 3-point land and averaging 9.5 ppg, 6.4 pg, and 2.2 apg in 2020-21.

Darius Maddox is the proverbial next man up at the small forward spot. He’s played sparingly so far as he enters his second year of college basketball. He played sparingly as a freshman, appearing in just 11 games in 2020-21.

David N’Guessan is another name to keep an eye on. He appeared in 21 games in 2020-21 for an average of 9.7 minutes per game. Look for his production to grow with minutes as an all-around reserve in the frontcourt.
