2021-22 season outlook

Virginia Tech basketball has a chance to be a very good NCAA Tournament team given their returning experience heading into a new season. Head coach Mike Young has the program trending in the right direction with commitments already in their 2022 recruiting class from Rodney Rice, MJ Collins, and Patrick Wessler.

Keve Aluma is due for an encore performance after earning All-ACC honors and with Storm Murphy joining him, team confidence should be very high heading into the year. Justyn Mutts and David N’Guessan are two other names due to turn a corner as well for the Hokies.

One thing that certainly shouldn’t be an issue for the Hokies in 2021-22 is depth, especially in the frontcourt. If they can get to the top of ACC basketball in rebounds per contest after finishing in a tie for 7th this past season, they should be quite a force to be reckoned with in college basketball this season.

They’ve already proven they can hang in the league as a 3-point shooting squad. They finished fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (35.4) and eighth in makes per game (9.1) in 2020-21.

They’ll have to get through Memphis and the usual heavy hitters in ACC basketball action with UNC, Duke, and Virginia on the schedule and if they can, look for them to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
