Mid-major Basketball: 5 key questions and storylines for 2021-22 season
3. After Max Abmas and Antoine Davis, who will be the third-highest scorer among all mid-majors?

John-Michael Wright
The Junior guard out of High Point was a first-team All-Big South Conference performer averaging 20.7 points (17th nationally). Wright decided to return to the Panthers after initially entering into the transfer portal, where he drew interest from multiple high major programs.
Wright will once again be at the controls for the High Point offense where he took 34.9% of the shots (7th nationally) and was used on 31.5% off the Panthers possessions (25th nationally) a season ago, according to KenPom. Not surprisingly, Wright had136 more shot attempts than the next closest teammate. This, coupled with improvement from behind the arc, (34.3% each of the last two seasons) would make Wright appointment TV all season long.
Watson
Seattle’s Darrion Trammell (20.5 PPG) is not only one of the best scorers in the country, but he’s also one of the best point guards in the country. Look for him to repeat as a First Team All-WAC player and push for WAC Player of the Year honors as a talented Seattle team tries to compete with the top of a rebuilt and very deep league.
Schroeder
That person will come from the Missouri Valley Conference. Northern Iowa’s A.J. Green is back and healthy and was averaging 22 points per game on a terrible hip last season. I’m told he is stronger than ever. Isiaih Mosley led the Valley with a 19.8 ppg and he is just learning where and when to shoot the three. These two will be high on the charts this year.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see someone like Patrick Baldwin Jr. having the type of season where he fills the stats sheet in a major way. Watch out for someone like Grant Sherfield to put up major numbers and elevate Nevada back into the national spotlight.
