Ranking the freshman seasons of former number one high school recruits: 4. Marvin Bagley

Freshman stats: 21 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 61.4 fg%

Marvin Bagley always had the advantage when he stepped onto a high school court. During his senior year at Sierra Canyon, Bagley toyed with the competition by averaging 24.9 points and 10.1 boards.

His numbers, while terrific, weren’t exactly out of the ordinary. This list is jam-packed with players who destroyed the opposition during their high school days. For several, going to the next level is a bit of a challenge. Time and time again, we’ve seen high school players who were considered the best in their class struggle with the physicality of the college game. In the case of Bagley, he treated them the exact same. Meaning, he annihilated them.

As a member of Duke University, Bagley was practically unstoppable no matter where he was on the court. He averaged 21 points per game and 11.1 rebounds. He was also incredibly efficient. Bagley connected on 61.4% of his shots from the field and 39.7% from behind the 3-point line.

Duke appreciated his contributions as they finished the season with a 29-8 record and a March Madness run that came to an end in the Elite-8.
