NCAA Basketball: Way-too-early transfer rankings for 2022-23 season
6. James Graham III, Maryland
Info: 6-8, 205 lbs., SG, Fr.
2020-21 stats: 1.3 PTS, 1.3 REB, 4.5 MIN, 8 GP
Graham was a four-star recruit in 2020 but appeared in only eight games in 2020-21 and entered his name into the transfer portal after playing in only one game this season. The timing of his decision was interesting, just a few days before Mark Turgeon’s resignation. That said, Graham reaffirmed his intentions to transfer after Turgeon’s exit.
Graham has the potential to be a versatile defender as well as a 3-point threat offensively which has earned him high-major attention since entering the transfer portal in early December.
5. Peyton Daniels, Vanderbilt – STEPHEN F. AUSTIN
Info: 6-2, 185 lbs., SG, Fr.
Daniels was a four-star prospect coming out of high school but played only three games this season before transferring. He averaged 3.0 points and 3.7 rebounds in those games but his potential as a versatile combo guard is still incredibly high. He will join a Stephen F. Austin team that is projected to have an opening at one of the guard spots next season.
4. Jaylon Tyson, Texas – TEXAS TECH
Info: 6-7, 210 lbs., SF, Fr.
2021-22 stats: 1.8 PTS, 1.1 REB, 4.5 MIN, 8 GP
Tyson is yet another four-star prospect who is set to transfer after struggling at his first stop. He originally committed to Texas Tech but followed Chris Beard to Texas this summer. He averaged just 6.9 minutes and 1.9 points in his eight appearances for the Longhorns this season before announcing that he will transfer back to Texas Tech, where he will be immediately eligible to play in 2022-23.
Tyson still shows potential as a scoring wing with good size who will be a valuable player for Mark Adams and the Red Raiders next season.
