Arkansas

Last season, Arkansas made it all the way to the Elite Eight, a fantastic showing in coach Eric Musselman’s second season with the Razorbacks. There were expectations that year three could be more of the same, especially after a 9-0 start to the season. The next month was particularly rough for the Razorbacks, losing five of six games, including mind-boggling home losses to Hofstra and Vanderbilt.

This week, Arkansas put itself back on track and back in the SEC conversation. The team got their first conference win in an 87-43 demolition of Missouri back on Wednesday, playing what was easily their best defensive game of the season. On Saturday, they got the big upset they really needed, heading to Baton Rouge and upsetting LSU 65-58, with JD Notae’s 19 points helping lead the charge.

Arkansas looked like a contender in the SEC back in early December, and then looked like a real pretender. This road win at LSU is exactly the kind of result Arkansas needed, perhaps to build momentum again. The Razorbacks are still just 2-3 in SEC play, but have a ton of winnable games in the coming weeks. They saw their NET ranking rise over thirty places with that upset of the Tigers, but that has to be the first step; not the entire resume.
