NCAA Basketball: Dayton, Texas, Nevada, and Southern Utah headline Sunday Mailbag

I have seen a lot of chatter about how Chris Beard is not matching his coaching with his Texas roster, Is that why the Longhorns are in a slump? – Patrick Madden (@TheSportsJD)
As was mentioned, Texas is one of the most interesting teams in all of College Basketball. When they put it all together and are engaged they are one of the best teams in the country, when they don’t and they seemingly “go through the motions” they can be beat by just about anyone in the country. This same fact rings true for the majority of College Basketball as well. Texas has to learn to win like any team does as they are not going to blow everyone out.
I also mentioned that head coach Chris Beard is doing what he always does. The Longhorns are the best defensive team in the country and they are still utilizing his patented no-middles defense. They have a very old team and guys who have a ton of experience playing in College.
The problem lies with how the roster is assembled and that is the majority of this roster are all new to playing to with each other as most of them came from the transfer portal. The Chemistry issues have plagued this team, they have no trust in each other and they are still trying to feel each other out.
Playing with each other in practice and playing in a game are two different things. The chemistry issues are not the only thing plaguing Texas, the other thing is that it seems they are buying the hype and have a problem with getting fired up for some games.
Texas has the makings of a team that is going to be good against Kansas, Baylor, and Texas Tech, but then lose to the teams that have like Kansas State who is going to be a bottom-of-the-league team. A good week has everyone forget about the Longhorns’ bad week and will think of them as a final four team again. Chris Beard is doing just fine at Texas.
