Notre Dame Basketball: Takeaways from big road win over Louisville
Blake Wesley is one of the best freshmen in the country
Blake Wesley was a top 100 recruiting prospect coming out of the 2021 recruiting class by multiple recruiting outlets. The Irish knew coming into the year that Wesley was going to be in the rotation, but not sure anybody saw the South Bend native putting up huge numbers night after night so quickly in his college career. Wesley wasted no time showing he belongs by scoring 21 points in his first career college game against CSUN.
The coaching staff knew they had something special in Blake Wesley and decided after only six games in his college career to put him in the starting lineup. Blake Wesley was the first freshman to start for Notre Dame since Robby Carmody did in 2018 against UIC. Wesley has not lost his spot in the starting lineup and will not be losing it anytime soon because he is such a huge part of the team and needs to be out there.
Wesley has scored in double figures in sixteen of eighteen games so far this year with only two off games early in the season against High Point and Saint Mary’s. What is even more impressive is he has scored at least 20 points in five of those contests.
Blake Wesley has impressed so much that you are starting to see his name pop up on more and more mock drafts on the internet for either this upcoming draft or the following 2023 mock draft. Wesley will not win the freshman of the year in the ACC due to fellow freshman Paolo Banchero but Wesley will definitely be a finalist as he deserves to be with the year he is having for Notre Dame.
