ACC Basketball power rankings: Florida State rises, Louisville dives downward
It can’t be stated how far back this team was just a few weeks ago in terms of its NCAA Tournament hopes after losing to Wake Forest to start out 1-2 in ACC play. They had yet to beat an NCAA Tournament caliber program and losses to South Carolina and Florida have looked worse as time goes on.
But Florida State has since been unbeatable, winning its last six games. That includes a massive overtime victory over Duke, led by 18 points from Caleb Mills and 14 from freshman forward John Butler Jr.
Then on Saturday, the Seminoles were able to avoid blowing a 20+ point halftime lead late to rival Miami and hold on for a 61-60 victory on the road, led by 16 points from Mills and 15 points and seven rebounds from Anthony Polite.
With Mills becoming a consistent 15+ ppg scorer, the offense for FSU has become much more of a threat in the past couple of weeks. And they’ve gotten at least 1-2 role players to provide double-digit support as well.
This team now is back in the at-large and ACC regular-season title game picture and has a great opportunity to stay there, likely big favorites against upcoming opponents, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Pittsburgh.
