3. Houston (18-2)

We’re starting to get to the point where we don’t really know what we have in Houston. The Cougars lost their best player in Marcus Sasser, but have just blitzed their way through AAC play; though this wasn’t exactly unexpected. It’s easy to compare this team to Gonzaga’s blitz through the WCC, but surely Houston will start facing some resistance in the coming weeks?

Their only game this past week came on Saturday at UCF and unsurprisingly it ended in another big win. The Cougars wound up winning 63-49, led by Kyler Edwards’ 17 points and 7 rebounds, with Josh Carlton contributing 13 points and 15 rebounds. The Cougars defense has played marvelously against these weak AAC teams, though you could certainly say the Knights are one of the strongest teams left in this league right now.

No matter how you slice it, Houston is rolling even after everything they’ve dealt with this year. Last year’s Final Four team has now run off ten straight wins and a perfect 7-0 start to AAC play. Right now, this looks like a team that could be in the market to return to the Final Four. Next week they get a home game with Tulane and a road trip to Cincinnati; a place that isn’t as dangerous to play as it has been in recent years. Is 9-0 inevitable?
