19. Tennessee (14-6)

There have been some difficult games on the schedule lately for the Volunteers, so despite those six wins, we can assure you they still deserve their spot among the ranked. They very recently got a nice win over LSU, and that December win over Arizona still looks really great. Unfortunately, they stumbled again this past week, albeit in another tough road environment.

The Volunteers got the week started in style, holding on against Florida for a 78-71 win. It wasn’t their most impressive win of the year, but Santiago Vescovi put up 23 points and the Volunteers scored a third straight win. The weekend proved more challenging as Tennessee fell 52-51 at Texas despite a wild comeback at the end of the game.

Defense has carried the torch for the Volunteers, still sitting in the top 5 in defensive efficiency. All six of their losses have come away from home against ranked opponents, and they’ve notched a couple of nice wins along the way. At the very least, Tennessee is pretty battle-tested, but has work to do to improve on their 5-3 conference record. Next week is a good one to get back on track, with games against Texas A&M and South Carolina setting them up for success.
