18. Marquette (15-6)

Four weeks ago, Marquette was 8-6, had dropped their first three Big East games, and was riding a disappointing four-game losing streak. The Golden Eagles didn’t have any horrible losses, but this team was certainly trending in the wrong direction. Fast forward four weeks and it’s hard to find a team in the nation who’s had quite the run of success as Marquette has had in January.

Marquette continued their winning ways on Sunday, getting a very nice 75-64 win over Xavier. Justin Lewis had 20 points and 13 rebounds while Darryl Morsell added 19 points. Wednesday brought another victory, as the Golden Eagles took down Seton Hall 73-63 on the road, with an impressive 33-point effort from Lewis.

This is quite a run for Marquette, who now sits 7-3 in Big East play, with seven straight victories. They’ve swept Seton Hall, upset Villanova on the road, and gotten a nice slew of wins along the way. Lewis is playing a starring role while that defense has had some nice performances this month. Looking ahead, a really tough rematch at Providence awaits on Sunday, followed up by an even harder rematch with Villanova.
