Baylor vs Kansas: 2021-22 key storylines for important Big 12 matchup
Backcourt matchups
It is impossible to discuss Agbaji as the leading scorer in the Big 12 without raising the question of “Who is going to have the responsibility of guarding him?” When it comes to Baylor, the answer seems to have to be Adam Flagler. When looking at the three-guard front Coach Drew will put on the floor for almost 30 minutes, the 6’3″ Flagler is the only one that has a chance to match up physically with the 6’5 Agbaji.
Matching up with Agbaji is not the only match-up problem for the Bears when one goes down the depth chart (worsened if Flagler does not play). The match-up at point guard between James Akinjo and Remy Dajuan Harris (more on him later) will be entertaining to watch, but that is only where Baylor’s problems begin.
At first glance, the problem seems to be a moot point as 6’8 freshman Kendell Brown will be able to match up with the Jayhawks’ second-leading scorer Christian Braun, but Brown and Mayer do not have the scoring prowess the missing Cryer and Flagler have.
With Cryer’s foot injury preventing him from playing, taking the decision-making out of the coaching staff’s hands. Akinjo -who had a spectacular game versus West Virginia will exceed his usual 30 plus and will have added responsibility playing alongside 6’2 Dale Bonner as they attempt to slow down Agbaji.
