ACC Basketball: Ranking the top 10 impact transfers of 2021-22 season
9. Cole Swider – Syracuse
Swider played three seasons at Villanova prior to his transfer but was unable to crack the starting lineup with any consistency. That has changed at Syracuse this season, where he’s started all 23 games for the Orange. The 6-9 forward is averaging 12.9 points and 6.7 rebounds on the season, providing necessary length on the backside of Jim Boeheim’s zone.
Although Syracuse has struggled at just 12-11 this season, Swider could be a key returning piece for the Orange in 2022-23.
8. Jimmy Boeheim – Syracuse
Boeheim was one of the most notable incoming transfers last summer as he joins his brother, Buddy, in playing for their Hall of Fame father at Syracuse. He also joins Cole Swider as the second Syracuse player on this list.
As previously mentioned, Syracuse has struggled this season, but Jimmy has put up solid numbers with 13.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. The 6-8 left-hander is a 37.1% 3-point shooter although he prefers to use that as a threat to beat the defense off the dribble to the rim.
The Cornell transfer is currently on his fourth year of eligibility but has appealed to the NCAA for an extra year in order to return to Syracuse next season. This is based on the fact that the NCAA granted 2020-21 athletes an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19. However, the Ivy League canceled its winter sports season so its athletes did not have the same opportunity as those in the other 31 conferences.
