Ivy League Basketball: 2021-22 power rankings midway through conference play
6. Brown Bears – 11-13 (3-6)
The Bears are another team who could be higher in the standings had a few league games gone the other way in the final minute. They are coming off a 62-60 win over Dartmouth, with four players scoring in double figures. Jaylan Gainey led the way with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Tamenang Choh had 10 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
On the season, the 6’5 Choh (14.1 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 2.7 apg) leads Brown in all three main categories. Freshman guard Kino Lilly Jr. in second on the team with 13.7 ppg, primarily off the bench. Although they can sometimes be more reliant on Choh than they should be, Brown has the pieces to get an upset or two in the conference tournament. This is a team with plenty of size and depth but the inconsistent offense will have to be addressed.
5. Harvard Crimson – 11-9 (3-5)
Three non-D I wins inflates the overall record but this has been a Crimson team in the midst of a rebuilding effort after losing Seth Towns and Bryce Aiken since the last time the program played in a season. It has resulted in some inconsistency, with wins against the bottom-3 teams on the list, coincidentally on the road somehow.
Senior guard Noah Kirkwood (17.4 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and 3.2 apg) leads the way but one reason why Harvard has struggled has been the absence of Chris Ledlum. The junior forward is averaging 15.5 ppg and 8.6 rpg on the season but has played in 14 of 20 games, having been out since early January. He’s reportedly set to return soon and would be a major lift to the team, potentially in time to get to the top-4.
