16. Wisconsin Badgers

After losing to Rutgers at home on February 12th, it looked as if the Badgers were going to be out of the Big Ten title chase. However, they haven’t lost since, with wins over Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, and exacting some revenge over the Scarlet Knights this weekend. They proved that they didn’t need star guard Johnny Davis, as he only had 12 points before fouling out in a one-point win over the Gophers.

Davis had a better outing in an 8-point victory over Rutgers, scoring a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds. He was one of four double-digit scorers, with Tyler Wahl a rebound shy of a double-double.

Wisconsin now has a one-game lead over three teams in the Big Ten with a couple of games to go in the regular season. If they beat Nebraska next week, they’ll get at least a share of the title. But a win over Purdue at home would all but clinch it for themselves.

15. Saint Mary’s Gaels

After back-to-back home wins over San Francisco and BYU, Saint Mary’s all but locked up its ticket to the Big Dance. But they had a huge opportunity to move up a couple of seed lines at home against the No. 1 seed in the country, Gonzaga. This was after taking care of San Diego on the road earlier in the week to guarantee a No. 2 seed in the WCC Tournament.

The Gaels got off to the best start possible, going up double-digits in a few minutes. Big man Mattias Tass and guards Tommy Kuhse and Logan Johnson proved to be the best players on the court that night, slowing the Bulldogs all night and limited the offense to their worst stats of the season. Saint Mary’s led all night and won, 67-57, led by Kuhse with 14 points.

The Gaels don’t play until next Monday in the semifinals of the WCC Tournament and could potentially face off against Gonzaga in a rematch on Tuesday night. But it won’t be for a bid to the Big Dance as they’ve already taken care of that.
