Gabe Brown – Senior – Michigan State – 6’7, 210 lbs – March 2000

Brown is another senior who has gotten marginally better over his four-year career, eventually becoming a real prospect. He stands at 6’7, with a good frame. He’s not overly strong or long and looks shorter than he really is with a hunched posture.

Like Christie, Brown struggled in the half-court against Illinois. He lacks some handling and burst with the ball. Brown was more effective when he was able to get out in transition, with good north-south speed and run-and-jump ability, finishing two athletic dunks. Brown sits at 37% on 368 career three-point attempts, which seems indicative of who he is as a shooter.

He’s pretty reliable as a catch-and-shoot guy but struggles to hit shots off the bounce. Brown’s a solid, yet not spectacular finisher at the rim, and struggles to get there at times. Attacking closeouts is an area he’ll need to improve on to become a reliable, NBA-level, offensive option.

Defensively, Brown should be able to guard a couple different perimeter spots. He moves well laterally and understands where to be. He’s older and more polished and is probably not good enough at one particular skill to stick in the NBA, but is worth a look on a two-way contract.
