Ohio Valley Basketball: 2022 Conference Tournament preview and predictions
Quarterfinals
Game 3 – # 4 Southeast Missouri versus Tennessee State
The Redhawks (13-17, 8-9) split with TSU during the regular season, with each team winning at home. SEMO won two straight before dropping a two-point decision to Murray State on the season’s final day. Guard Eric Reed is on fire. While the 6’2 guard was held to nine points against Murray, he scored 84 points in the previous three outings. His 28-point performance sparked the Redhawks to a win over Morehead State.
Brad Korn’s team is feisty. The Redhawks split with Morehead State, with the loss coming in overtime. They defeated Missouri Valley Conference member Missouri State on opening night of the season. SEMO is the OVC’s third-leading scoring team.
Since we told you this was the ‘dark horse’ team in this tournament, we expect them to beat the Tigers.
Game 4 – # 3 Morehead State versus Austin Peay
The defending champion Eagles (21-10, 13-5) have struggled as the season has worn on, losing four of their final six games. However, the champs are battle-tested. Broome can win games all by himself. Tray Hollowell and Skyelar Potter are also double-digit scorers. Ta’lon Cooper is one of the league’s best point guards.
Coach Preston Spradlin’s team swept APSU during the regular season, winning by 25 points in early February. The Eagles went 1-3 against Belmont and Murray State and lost to SEMO and SIUE late in the season.
Morehead will win this game and head to the semifinals.
