24. Iowa Hawkeyes

The Hawkeyes were on a five-game win streak this week after scoring 82 points in wins over both Northwestern and Michigan. But it came to a halt at Illinois on Sunday, falling 74-72. Keegan Murray had 22 points and 10 rebounds but took 22 shots to get there. Tony Perkins was a bright spot with 17 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists, having taken on a larger role as of late.

The loss to end the regular season took Iowa out of the double-bye position, now the 5th seed for the Big Ten Tournament. But looking at the bracket, there’s a clear path for them to make a run to the finals. As long as Murray is healthy, they can beat anyone in the Big Ten.

23. USC Trojans

I said that the Trojans had an opportunity to make some noise and get some attention as March arrives. Unfortunately, it didn’t go the way they hoped. They got blown out by 20 points against Arizona at home and then lost at UCLA, 75-69. Isaiah Mobley had 20 points and eight rebounds while both Boogie Ellis and Drew Peterson each had 13 points.

USC enters the Pac-12 Tournament as the clear 3rd seed in a league that likely gets just three bids total barring another “bid thief” scenario as Oregon State did a year ago. They’ll likely get a rematch against one of the two top teams in the conference again but will have to put up a better performance than they did this past week.

22. Boise State Broncos

After beating Nevada by six points at home to win the Mountain West Regular-Season championship, the Broncos took on Colorado State in a battle of top teams in the league. In a game that was tight the entire time, Boise State couldn’t get the win, losing by three points despite Abu Kigab going for 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Boise State is still the one seed in the Mountain West Tournament and safely in the Big Dance field. But the opportunity to win one of the most competitive conference tournaments is in the Broncos’ hands and if they want one last crack at the Rams, they’ll have to make it to the finals.
