Kansas State Basketball: 8 candidates to replace Bruce Weber as head coach
By Joey Loose
Jerome Tang
The coaching carousel regularly sees programs like Kansas State hiring these hot mid-major names and sometimes it works out, but sometimes it doesn’t. This certainly doesn’t mean the Wildcats have to look at someone like this; as Tang presents an intriguing name that doesn’t even have any head coaching experience at the collegiate level.
After success as a high school coach, Tang has spent the last 19 years on the coaching staff at Baylor, helping Scott Drew complete one of the nation’s most impressive turnarounds with the Bears program. Clearly, most of the credit goes to Drew, but Tang has played a certain role in everything that’s transpired in Baylor these last two decades, culminating in last year’s national championship.
Much like how Tommy Lloyd took over Arizona this past offseason, perhaps it’s time for Tang to run his own program. He’s certainly very familiar with the Big 12, having seen Kansas State up close dozens of times over the last 19 years. Tang could be just the type of coach to take Kansas State to the next level, plus his hiring would likely weaken Baylor even a little bit; a win-win for the Wildcats.
