Recruiting violations are no joke, no matter how much the college basketball world is laughing at LSU right now. It might be important for the next LSU head coach to be able to recruit at a high level without running into these kinds of issues. With what may be coming, they might have to get extra creative to find those hidden gems.

Why wouldn’t we look closely at McMahon then, the very coach who found Ja Morant and helped turn him into an NBA star? Murray State’s head coach since 2015, McMahon has led the Racers to a third NCAA Tournament this season, pulling an opening-round upset with Morant three seasons ago. He’s looking to be the next in a long line of successful young Murray State coaches who leave for greener pastures and succeed.

McMahon has spent much of his career in and around Kentucky and Tennessee and could fit well down in Baton Rouge. He certainly wouldn’t be the first former Murray State coach to settle into an SEC job and it’s hard for him to prove he deserves a chance more than he already has. If LSU does select one of these high-profile mid-major coaches, it’s hard to find someone better than this.
