LSU Basketball: 7 candidates to replace Will Wade as head coach

It’s funny that we’ve mentioned Scott Drew multiple times already because we’re going there again. If LSU truly wants to turn things around, then instead of throwing the farm at Scott Drew, why not lure over his top lieutenant? Bringing Tang to Baton Rouge could be pretty similar to Arizona luring Gonzaga’s top assistant and becoming a top national contender this past season.
Tang was a successful high school coach before joining Drew’s first Baylor coaching staff way back in 2003. It’s been Tang right beside Drew as everything has happened for the Bears, turning that program around and winning the national championship last season. Tang has no collegiate head coaching career; in fact, he’s never worked at a college besides Baylor.
There’s nothing wrong with hiring a longtime assistant, even one without head coaching experience. LSU might have to be patient with whoever they bring to campus, and Tang’s work with Baylor was certainly the definition of patience. It’s long past time for this longtime assistant to run his own program and try to manufacture that Drew-like turnaround.
At long last, we’ve completed our deep dive into seven potential candidates at LSU; who do you think the Tigers should hire as their next head coach?
