NCAA Basketball: Ranking the Sweet 16 teams in 2022 NCAA Tournament
By Joey Loose
3. Kansas (#1 seed)
Across the last thirty years, Kansas has regularly been an elite team that looks capable of winning national championships, but they’ve only gotten it done once, way back in 2008. This is another one of those very talented Jayhawks teams, evident as they won another Big 12 regular-season title and Big 12 Tournament. We’ve seen this show before; is this Kansas team the one that can go all the way?
If it’s the case, this Kansas team has a dynamic roster, with Ochai Agbaji continuing to play a starring role. The Jayhawks made easy work of 16-seed Texas Southern in an 83-56 win on Thursday but faced a more difficult challenge against 9-seed Creighton. Helped mightily by Remy Martin’s 20-point effort, Kansas held on for a 79-72 win over the Bluejays. The impact of Christian Braun and Jalen Wilson cannot be understated either, as both players were in double figures in both wins.
Moving forward, Kansas looks to be in a great position to continue their run, getting an intriguing matchup with Providence and then a potential game against a double-digit seed in the Elite Eight. They’ve got a bona fide All-American in Agbaji and an offense that spreads the ball and can score points in bunches. The Jayhawks’ road to another Final Four won’t be difficult, though this team may need to shoot a bit better than they did against Creighton.
