NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Utah Valley transfer Fardaws Aimaq
USC Trojans
With head coach Andy Enfield set to return next season, that means that five-star forwards Kijani Wright and Vince Iwuchukwu won’t be going anywhere. With both Isaiah Mobley and Chevez Goodwin likely gone, the frontcourt will get much younger and inexperienced for 2022-23. So adding a transfer would make sense and currently, Aimaq is the top option from out west.
It’ll be interesting to see if Aimaq will exclusively play at the center position because he has the athleticism and talent to play both interior positions. An ideal situation would be for the former Wolverine big man to play alongside both freshman bigs and split the minutes with the Trojans. Plus, playing in Los Angeles and the Pac-12 overall isn’t a bad selling point either.
Virginia Tech Hokies
While the improved play of the Hokies late in the season was due to the guards shooting much better, it was forwards Justyn Mutts and Keve Aluma that have been the stars of the team for the past couple of years. Both are seniors that could leave next year and it’s very likely at least Aluma is gone, leaving a big hole at the center position.
If that occurs, Aimaq could join a team that is ranked in the top-5 nationally in three-point shooting. That kind of available spacing would allow the transfer center to flourish and head coach Mike Young is one of the best in the game. Although Virginia Tech isn’t the most high-profile team to potentially be in the mix, they may be one of the better potential fits.
