NCAA Tournament 2022: Players to watch in Friday’s Sweet 16 matchups
Remy Martin, 6-foot guard, Kansas Jayhawks
The Kansas Jayhawks knew they were getting Christian Braun and Ochai Agbaji back this season, but when Remy Martin joined the team out of the transfer portal, a lot of eyebrows were raised in the process. Since then, Martin has found his way, by coming off the bench.
Martin has been quite the role player off the bench as he’s gotten healthy for the Jayhawks in the NCAA Tournament. He’s found his way through as they look to continue their success in the Sweet 16 as he’s averaging 17.5 ppg, 4.0 apg, 4.0 rpg, and 1.0 spg while shooting 59.1 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range.
He scored a season-high 20 points for the Jayhawks in their 79-72 victory over Creighton, to survive and advance. 16 of his points came in the first half as he opened shooting 6-of-9 from the field in the opening frame. His efforts have elevated the Jayhawks’ profile at just the right time as they look to advance to the Elite Eight over the Providence Friars.
Look for Martin to be a featured backcourt name for Kansas to look to offset the Friars, who have a strong weapon of their own in the backcourt.
