NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Pros and cons of Anthony Black’s final options
TCU Horned Frogs
Pros: Family, location, and under the radar good team
There are several factors in the Frogs’ favor that make them a sneaky contender in this sweepstakes. The first being that Black is practically family with current player Micah Peavy on the roster. Plus, TCU is the lone state of Texas program in the running so there wouldn’t have to be any travel issues.
And unlike Oklahoma State, TCU is coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance and took No. 1 seed Arizona to the wire in the Round of 32. And technically, they could bring everyone back since they all have eligibility. As long as star guard Mike Miles comes back for another year, the Horned Frogs could be a top-25 team even without Black… imagine what they’d be with him?
Cons: Would be 3rd ball-handler on the team
One thing that Black would have to do if he picked TCU is find his place in an already set hierarchy. Miles is the lead guard, while Damion Baugh is the top passer, averaging 4.5 apg this season. And Chuck O’Bannon has started most games at the wing position as well. So if everyone did come back, Black would likely have to come off the bench, which is Gonzaga’s biggest flaw on paper.
And if he isn’t going to get as much playing time as possible, why not go to Gonzaga and Arkansas, who are consistent Final Four contenders? The Horned Frogs could be that but it’s a risk if Baugh and Miles are the clear-cut top ball-handlers. But who knows, maybe he’ll be willing to join Peavy coming off the bench and being the stars of the second-unit of a top-25 team.
