First time Duke and North Carolina faces off in NCAA Tournament

As mentioned here, and it is going to be mentioned everywhere this is the first time the Tobacco Road Rivalry. The Stakes for this game have never been higher as the winner of this game heads to the National Championship game to play the winner of the Villanova and Kansas game. The game always means a lot to both teams and fanbases. The game has decided ACC titles, ACC tournament titles, it has ended seasons, and even still those are not going to mean as much as this game.

Hubert Davis who is the coach at North Carolina played at North Carolina and was part of this rivalry already gets a chance to get his team to the final four in the first year. Duke also has members of their coaching staff who were players in the rivalry. Jon Scheyer who is going to be the head coach for Duke next year was a big part of the rivalry and was on some very good Duke teams. Those coaches both know what is at stake and how to coach in this rivalry. This is the biggest game in their career up to this point.

Due to the stakes of the game, there are going to be a ton of fans from both sides in New Orleans. Country Singer Eric Church, who is a huge North Carolina fan, has already canceled his San Antonio date on Saturday so he can attend the game in person. Expect many other celebrities as well as former players to be in attendance.

This will happen again I’m sure but there will always be the first Duke vs North Carolina game in the NCAA tournament. The 2021-2022 NCAA tournament keeps making history.
