NCAA Basketball: 10 teams that should target Morehead State transfer Johni Broome
Michigan State Spartans
With the confirmed departure of starter center Marcus Bingham Jr., Michigan State has a clear hole at the five-spot, unless they believe that former top-40 prospect Mady Sissoko is finally ready for extended minutes next season.
What makes Broome a really good fit is his defense and rebounding, two areas that have plagued the Spartans since losing both Xavier Tillman and Jaren Jackson Jr. a couple of years ago. Coach Tom Izzo got a mid-major transfer last offseason in Tyson Walker and he was solid so why not go after one that fits a big need on the roster in Broome? Plus, the Big Ten may be best suited for the transfer’s skillset and with so many good bigs likely leaving, the Spartans could have the best center in the league next season.
Tennessee Volunteers
Another SEC and regional option that Broome could consider is Tennessee, who lost both starting big John Fulkerson and backup freshman Handje Tamba, leaving some open room at the five-spot for Broome. They do have Jonas Aidoo and Brandon Huntley-Hatfield but if they’re looking for a more proven option, Broome would be available.
Another selling point here would be how much involved Broome would be offensively. With Kennedy Chandler off to the NBA, that leaves Santiago Véscovi as the only returning player that averaged more than 11 ppg this past season. The former Morehead State star may not have as big a role at places like Kentucky, Kansas, or Gonzaga but the Vols can allow him to be featured on offense without the team suffering as a result. Could be the best of both worlds.
