8. Texas Tech lands D’maurian Williams from Gardner-Webb

Head coach Mark Adams loves “3 and D” playmakers that are 6’5-6’7 and had half of the roster built that way this past season. Of course, several of them are moving on, including seniors Davion Warren and Adonis Arms, along with Terrence Shannon Jr., who opted to enter the transfer portal.

So it’s not unexpected that Texas Tech would be in the market for at least one wing that has the ability to space the floor. And they found one this week in D’maurian Williams, a 6’5 guard that was an All-Big South performer at Gardner-Webb this year. He was a double-digit scorer as a freshman coming off a bench and Williams’ production went up to 14.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, and 2.5 apg on 41% shooting from the field and 39% from three-point range.

The wing had eight games of at least 20 points this past season, including 25 points against Western Carolina, including six made three-pointers. Williams was a volume shooter from deep and will look for a role with the Raiders, with 2-3 years of eligibility.

For Texas Tech, they’ll be now focusing on a starting center, replacing both Bryson Williams and Marcus Santos-Silva. That’s the biggest need among the couple of scholarships available for the team now that they took care of the wing position.
