NCAA Basketball: 10 teams that should target SMU transfer guard Kendric Davis
TCU Horned Frogs
I wasn’t originally going to say that Davis was going to consider his previous school but reports online say that it’s a possibility. And assuming that there were no hard feelings between the player and head coach Jamie Dixon from a few years ago, it would make sense for a reunion. TCU is another “local” option to consider, which is also coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance.
And with star guard Mike Miles set to return, the Frogs realistically could bring back everyone and improve even more with Davis in the mix. Damion Baugh was a solid starter for the team last season, averaging 4.5 apg, but he’s limited offensively compared to Davis. And these three could play with one another in the backcourt to maximize the offense, combined with already quality team defense. Of the options in the state of Texas (Houston and Baylor are excluded because both already have elite returning guards), TCU could be the best of the available options.
UConn Huskies
I wanted to include a wildcard team that could offer plenty of playing time and a potentially winning situation for Davis. And former AAC foe UConn is one of them, having to replace leading scorer RJ Cole, as well as guards Rahsool Diggins and Jalen Gaffney, currently in the transfer portal. Andre Jackson will get a much larger role next year but the Huskies will need a proven scorer in the backcourt in order to compete for a Big East title and NCAA Tournament berth.
The Big East is certainly an upgrade over the AAC and Davis would play with a quality big man in Adama Sanogo. Head coach Dan Hurley has had success with transfers before and has reportedly been looking for a starting-caliber guard. Davis, who has played against UConn in the past, would be a near-perfect fit for them.
