5. Is Juwan Howard actually a candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers job (or another NBA job)?

Michigan fans are no stranger to these rumors.  This isn’t the first time Howard’s name has appeared on the shortlist for an NBA job, and it won’t be the last.  Within minutes of the Lakers firing Frank Vogel, rumors appeared that Juwan Howard could be a leading candidate for the opening.

Howard’s wife Jenine appeared to shut these rumors down the next day.  While her tweet attempts to calm Michigan fans down and imply that his focus is on winning a championship at Michigan, it also drives home the obvious – Juwan has two sons that will be on next year’s roster.

Jace Howard is entering his third year in college basketball playing for his dad, and his younger son Jett is an incoming freshman next season with an NBA future.  It won’t be surprising when Juwan inevitably decides to coach in the NBA one day, but it would be a complete shock for that to happen the offseason before he is set to coach both his sons at once.

Next. Biggest takeaways from first week of offseason. dark

If I were a betting man (I am), I would bet on 4-5 more years of Juwan Howard as the head coach at Michigan before he takes the job as head coach of a major market team in the NBA.

Or who knows, maybe he’ll leave tomorrow to coach the Cleveland Cavaliers.
