NCAA Basketball: Current ranking of top 100 transfers in 2022 offseason
By Bryan Mauro
5. Fardaws Aimaq – Junior
I sincerely hope that the average college basketball fan has heard of Aimaq before he entered the transfer portal and hopefully before this list. The 7’0” center from Utah Valley is one of the best big men in the country, and if he had some more exposure would have absolutely gotten some run in the Wooden award voting.
The Canadian big man is one of the best rebounders in the country and averaged 11 rebounds over his career and that is only because he played sparingly his freshman year at Mercer which is bringing all of his numbers down. The center was the best transfer in the portal for a long time and the offer list is long. Gonzaga is reportedly at the top of his interest right now. He shoots 49% from the floor over his career and 46% from deep. He scores 13 points per game over his career as well.
There is not a single team in the country that would not take 13 points and 13 rebounds a night for their team. Rebounding is one thing, but he averages about 3.1 offensive rebounds per game over his career which puts him up with the elite offensive rebounders in the country. Aimaq is going to put himself on the map and get himself some exposure. He can absolutely play in the NBA after this season as well.
4. Terrence Shannon Jr .- Junior
The resurgence for Texas Tech basketball has all started on the defensive end of the floor and they do a ton of damage at the rim on offense. Shannon is a guy who can shoot a lot from deep and is good at getting to the rim. The guard didn’t put up tremendous numbers in any year in Lubbock, but if you look deeper you will see that Shannon Jr. was never one of the top three options on offense he was always a fourth or fifth option on offense. He saw his role diminish this season.
That doesn’t mean he isn’t a great player it speaks to the talent level that the Red Raiders had on that team. Shannon is going to a power five and is going to see his role increase a great deal and will likely score more than 10 points per game, but he is going to play lock-down defense.
3. Norchad Omier – Freshman
Omier is the first player born in Nicaragua to play NCAA Basketball. Omier has been talked about a ton these last few weeks since he decided to enter the transfer portal and that is excellent. However, if he had decided to not enter the portal not many would know about Omier. He played at Arkansas State which is rarely on TV and has not had much success. The Red Wolves were a team that everyone had pegged to be decent this year in large part of Omier.
The big man is an efficient scorer shooting 60% from the floor overall and on top of the offensive prowess he can be one of the best rebounders in the country. He averages four offensive rebounds per game to go along with eight defensive rebounds. The big man averages about 2 blocks per game as well. The Freshman has three years of eligibility remaining and will fill a stat sheet every night out. Omier is good and the team he goes to is going to be getting a star.
2. Johni Broome – Freshman
Up until about a week ago, Broome was my top transfer in the portal. Broome isn’t going to have the most rebounds or the most points of any of the top centers in the portal but he takes games over and can go on runs where he can score 10-15 points per night. He like the other centers is extremely efficient as he shoots 57% from the floor and still does average a double-double. He is a good offensive rebounder and the best passer of any of the big men in the portal.
The thing that Broome does that is going to set him apart from the rest is his ability to protect the rim, he averaged 4 blocks per game this year. His ability to protect the rim, run the floor, rebound, and score in the post add to the fact that teams will get him for three more years and he becomes one of the most coveted players in the portal.
1. Kendric Davis – Senior
You will be hard-pressed to find another transfer to the caliber of Davis. He was instantly the best transfer on the market the second he entered the transfer portal. There is nothing that the senior point guard cannot do.
He can pass as he averages a shade of four assists per game, he is an elite shooter and scorer, gets fouled a ton as he took over 200 free throws this year. He also shoots free throws at an 83% clip for his career. Davis has the ball alot and in addition to his 200 free throws he also shot over 200 threes and made 38% of them this season. The senior has a long list of suitors and it’s just easier to say which teams have not reached out to him in the portal. He has a great chance to score 2,000 points for his career and is the type of player who can change the fortunes of the program he goes to.
The guard was a runaway for the American Player of the Year and unfortunately, he could not get them to the NCAA tournament. He has never played in the tournament and likely will next year.
