Role players on the move

Joe Toussaint

After three years of averaging fewer than 18 minutes over 98 games, Joe Toussaint has decided to enter the transfer portal. The 6’0 point guard started 20 games as a freshman and 21 games this past season, but for the majority of his stay in Iowa, he was splitting time with either CJ Fredrick, Jordan Bohannon, or both.

Toussaint gave opponents a different look as he was quicker than his aforementioned teammates while depending on getting to the basket in order to create scoring opportunities, as opposed to the three-point shot. Toussaint’s skill as Iowa’s only true point guard is indicated in him leading Iowa in steals and assists last season.

Dawson Garcia

Minnesota on the other hand will be adding to its ranks via the transfer portal. For the second time in two seasons 6’11 Dawson Garcia has decided to transfer, this time leaving North Carolina after playing just 16 games. Garcia, a native of Prior Lake, Minnesota ended his season early due to family medical issues. Not only will attending the University of Minnesota afford Garcia the opportunity to stay close to his family but, less importantly become the starting center for the Terrapins.

After having averaged 13 points per game at Marquette and nine with North Carolina, Garcia will immediately become a contributor for the Terrapins, hopefully for him and for Minnesota he will not need a waiver from the NCAA since this will be his third team in three years.
