NCAA Basketball: Updated WTE 2022-23 power rankings after transfer deadline
13. Michigan Wolverines
2021-22 record: 19-15 (11-9 in Big Ten)
It was a season filled with ups and downs, including head coach Juwan Howard being suspended for several regular-season games due to an interaction with Wisconsin’s Greg Gard after a game. But somehow, the Wolverines made it to the Sweet 16 once again. And they have a good chance to do so again now that All-American big man Hunter Dickinson is set to come back for his junior season.
Dickinson averaged 18.6 ppg and 8.6 rpg and was the most consistent player on a roster filled with inconsistent players. That includes former five-star frontcourt prospects, Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate. Both of them entered the NBA Draft process at the early entrant deadline and they’re 50/50 in terms of whether they come back or not. But as long as at least one of them returns, the frontcourt won’t be devoid of depth for next season.
Where the moves have been made on the roster have been in the backcourt. Starting guards Devante Jones and Eli Brooks already were set to leave and most recently, freshman guard Frankie Collins entered the transfer portal. The team did add 15 ppg scoring guard Jaelin Llewellyn from Princeton but the lead guard position is still a question.
Having Dickinson on the roster automatically makes Michigan a contender for next season but there are still a number of moves that have to be made before seeing where they truly stand in the national picture.
