NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking 2023 5-star wing Ron Holland’s top 8
By Ian Mumm
Texas Longhorns
It was a rockier than expected initial season in Austin for head coach Chris Beard. Despite landing a very strong recruiting class in the offseason, it wasn’t in the cards for the Longhorns to smoothly roll those players out and translate them into wins. However, Beard is rolling the dice again with a top-5 recruiting class and another off-season developing his team for next season.
Beard exhibits a strong philosophy for sound defense, much in the way several other programs on Holland’s list prefer to play and has used this model to repeatedly contend in the Big-12 conference. Fortunately for him, attracting talent to a program like Texas has not been difficult.
The Longhorns boast a proven history of sending players to the next level and feature some very notable names currently in the NBA (Kevin Durant, Myles Turner, and Jarrett Allen). Along with a rabid fanbase, a prominent university brand and statewide support, the Longhorns could be a contender to lift Holland’s name up draft boards should he call it “home.”
