Kenny Lofton shows off slimmed-down figure, full-facet game

Lofton was one of the more dominant bigs at the mid-major level this season, averaging 16 points, 10 rebounds and just under three assists. But Lofton looked out of shape in season. While he could still slim down a bit, Lofton’s body definitely looked better.

Lofton’s guard skills shined in the scrimmages. He made a living out of passing out of the post this season and showed off his play-making, racking up seven assists in two games. With NBA spacing, Lofton could be a real weapon in the short-roll and operating dribble-handoffs.

He’s got good touch inside to go with impressive footwork. He uses a variety of fakes and pivots to get angles in the post. The question is, how much of that translates and how much usage is he going to get? Running offense through a back-up five is not a commonality in the NBA.

Lofton is undersized for a five, (just 6’6.75 in shoes), still needs to slim down and improve his foot speed, and while his shot looks better, he’s a non three-point shooter right now. It’s definitely an uphill battle to make the NBA, but Lofton helped himself in the two days of the G-League camp, earning him an invite to the NBA Combine.
