NCAA Basketball: 8 potential landing spots for Illinois transfer Jacob Grandison
By Joey Loose
Michigan State
Michigan State had one of the best exterior offenses in the country last season, but a few of those big pieces aren’t in East Lansing anymore. The Spartans will still have Joey Hauser, Tyson Walker, and Malik Hall causing mayhem, with all three converting at least 40% of their 3-point attempts last year. However, Gabe Brown and Max Christie are both gone, and those were the two players with the most volume from long-range.
From this specific perspective, sliding in Grandison fills part of the hole left behind by those absences. The Spartans excel when they have long-range shooters who can hit these shots, especially in transition, and Grandison could certainly be that kind of lynchpin. He’s nowhere near the total offense player that Brown was, and he’ll certain need someone like Hauser to be the top option on offense, but Grandison could be a key cog if the Spartans have another breakout season next year.
North Carolina
Few expected quite what North Carolina pulled off last season, running all the way to the national championship game as an 8-seed. With Armando Bacot, RJ Davis, Caleb Love, and Leaky Black all deciding to come back, this Tar Heels squad is in phenomenal position to contend for more national glory this season. This roster is not yet complete and Grandison could fill a vital role for the Tar Heels.
Last year, Brady Manek was the best 3-point shooter on the Tar Heels and he’s the most important player not back for next season. While Grandison certainly can’t fill Manek’s exact role in this dynamic offense, his ability from long-range could be that missing piece for this team. Clearly, the Tar Heels already have some talented shooters around Bacot, but we’ve seen how Grandison played around someone like Cockburn dominating in the middle; he could be a vital piece on next season’s squad.
We’ve finished a brief look at eight potential landing spots for Jacob Grandison; where do you think the former Illinois sharpshooter will play his final season of college basketball?
